PenFed is hiring a Director, Accounting Shared Services at our Tysons, Virginia location. The purpose of this role is to be responsible for directing the activities of the shared service group which includes the accounts payable function, payroll function, fixed asset and project accounting function, the bank reconciliation, and cash clearing function. This position is responsible for setting strategy and direction as well as driving performance of a shared service center providing accounting services to various businesses units and corporate functions. This position may also participate in due diligence involving mergers and post-acquisition activities. This position interacts very closely with the line of business Controllers Team, as well as Treasury, Procurement, HR, and IT to optimize processes and services as well as identify and transition potential functions/services into the shared service center where feasible. Provides leadership, supervision, training, and guidance as required to ensure the goals of the shared service accounting teams are achieved. Provides leadership of shared services, functions as a subject matter expert for direct and/or dotted line reporting relationships. Designs, implements, and maintains standardized processes for all functions within the shared service center in coordination with other regional centers. Coordinates with Business Unit CFOs, Directors, Managers, Financial Analysts and/or Accountants to analyze results in accordance with requirements to deliver timely month-end close. Establishes and tracks standardized metrics to analyze, interpret and communicate the effectiveness and efficiency of the team and provide actionable recommendations for improved performance. Communicates performance and results to senior leadership. Develops and executes the strategy and identifies future opportunities for optimization within the shared service center; increasing its scope as appropriate. Ensures compliance with specific financial regulatory requirements such as US GAAP, internal controls, tax withholding management, etc. Leads and implements projects to transition accounting and transaction processing roles from the business groups into the shared service center. Coordinates with Chief Accounting Officer for input on strategy and implementation of enterprise-wide changes. Develops and maintains process documentation and guidelines. Serves as the shared service center lead for systems support. Responsible for development and career planning of the team. Manages budget and accompanying resources for shared service team. Effectively influences stakeholders to drive transformation and deliver anticipated results. Develops a strong focus on controls, ensuring compliance is at the heart of all shared service operations. This role is responsible for ensuring business continuity. * Qualifications Equivalent combination of education and experience is considered. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or Business Administration required Master’s degree in Business Administration preferred Minimum twelve (12) years of accounting experience in a shared service center environment Minimum of five (5) years’ managing in an accounting shared service center Experience in managing financial transactional business services or shared services, process improvement and management of operational services delivery in a Finance function. Strong technology focus and financial systems and process improvement acumen. Demonstrated comfort level in building partnerships, driving improvement, and working collaboratively with others to meet shared objectives. Excellent communications skills and the ability to effectively engage with key stakeholders. Sound business acumen and the ability to think analytically, distill root cause and implement effective solutions and to drill into the details when required. Understanding of dependent upstream and downstream activities that impact and are impacted by Finance function. Ability to mentor staff. Change management leadership – Implements needed change while maintaining organizational cohesiveness and meeting near-term operational goals. Knowledge of accounting / integrated ERP systems and proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 products. Licenses and Certifications Certified Public Accountant preferred Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to an indoor office setting with moderate noise. *Most roles require working in an office setting with moderate noise and the ability to lift 25 pounds.
